This was my Grandfathers. The image, which i think is a girl in a kerchief, makes me think its Polish. It could be American or from anywhere else. It is sterling.
If you could help me thanks.

Hello Yisroel,
it is not Polish, it is from Czechoslovakia, 1922-1929 (Tardy page 399)
Also see here: http://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html

It is not sterling (925), it has a fineness of 800.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Hello Yisroel

In yours photo shown fineness mark is already explained correct to you by Ringo.

First mark is maker’s mark (marks scheme: I/2 = Grotesque Capital Letters in a rectangle frame):
Fr. Bibus u. Sohn, Silber- und Electroplatedwarenfabrik, Mähr. Trübau (Company’s name of that period after World War I) (transl.: Fr. Bibus & Son, Silver- and Electroplated Products Factory).

Fr. Bibus & Son of Moravská Trebová, Moravia, CS, were in their country the almost important factory for products in Silver — their products style in hollowware range varied from conventional baroque to Secession style of Vienna. Their plated range was in parts of same style.

For cutlery they cooperated with «Berndorfer» in Austria, and «August Wellner Söhne» in Germany.

Frantisek Bibus & Son style of their model range »3000« was start 1895-1910 — before World War I. Your object is one of their sugar cases; this has the model nr. 3539; and is 13.5 cm long = 5 5/16 “

Polished and gilded inside, price was on 20 Nov. 1920: 32 Kr. 50 hr.
