Help with information on Hallmarked Sterling plaque box

Postby thursdayschild » Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:51 am

This is a sterling silver and lacquer box. The silver plaque on the front has some age. The maker's name "925" and other hallmarks are on the bottom of the plaque. I thought it might be Italian because of the name. Any information on the maker and/or age would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello.

Those are Italian marks on your box. They have been used since 1999.
The "R" in the box stands for riempito which means filled.
The 925 refers to the fineness of the sheet of silver used to cover resin or a similar material.
The numbers 10 - 13 indicates the amount of 925 silver used to cover the base material.
The letter "g" stands for grams. So, you have 10 to 13 grams of silver on your box.

Don't have any information on Castelloui.

Pat.

In the last few years, have seen a number of these boxes, with the apparently electroformed decoration - believe the name is Castellani.
