I'm sure this is French but can't make out the mark

Hi guys. I have a piece that is marked on the bottom handle and lid. The makers mark is kind of hard to make out. Could you guys give me a little help please. Hopefully era, and maker. Thank you.

Yes, definitely Portuguese. The seated boar in a canted square is the mark used in Porto, Portugal from 1886-1937 on large silver items; the Roman numeral "I" stood for the first standard of fineness, .916. (At least I think it's a "I"; the mark is worn and it could be the more common "II" for the second standard of .833.) The maker's mark "E" with a crozier in an ovoid is the mark of Eduardo Martins Carneiro, registered in 1923 and still used by his heirs in 1959. Fra. Marques is the retailer.
