TUITE, William (Grimwade p.685)

Postby silverly » Wed Jun 03, 2015 2:33 am

7 May 1763 Will Tuit of Saint James Golden Square Goldsmith paid apprentice indenture duty for Joseph Rolls.

18 December 1770 William Tuite of the Parish of Saint Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex Widower married Henrietta Wollascot of the Parish of Saint George Bloomsbury Camden Spinster in her Parish Church.

Mary Wallascot of the Parish of Saint George Bloomsbury was a deponent in William Tuite's 1775 probate hearing. Also, the wife's name on the archived will copy was Harriott. However she signed their 1770 marriage license Henrietta, so Harriott must be a transcription error. Will index post: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=16837&p=38029&hilit=Tuite#p38029

Just as a Henry can be known as Harry, so a Henrietta can be Harriet (or Harriott). I think this is simply a case of the formal, given name appearing in one document and the more commonly or affectionately used version in another. I mention this because I have in the past been confused by this use of apparently different names for the same person in different documents. It is something I am now more aware of when indulging in any research.

Thank you. In legal documents like these, I wasn't anticipating familiar names, but it does make good sense.
