MILLINGTON, Thomas (Grimwade p.285)

Post by MCB »

Thomas, the son of Thomas Millington deceased surgeon and apothecary of Moorfields, was apprenticed to John Reed of the Weavers Company in 1738 and free in 1745-6. These indentures appear relevant because of the entry in the 1768 London Poll Book (see below).
In 1752 Elizabeth Millington, presumably a relative, had married James Berkenhead (Grimwade p.283, 363) who was also a freeman of the Weavers Company and who in 1772 succeeded Millington in the tenancy of 31 Gutter Lane from where he had entered a mark at Goldsmiths’ Hall.
Robert, the son of Robert Loggin deceased surgeon and apothecary of Moorfields, became his apprentice in 1759.
He was listed at Gutter Lane in the 1768 London Poll Book as a freeman of the Weavers Company.
He was assessed to Land Tax on the property in Gutter Lane from 1759-71 and from where, also in 1771, a mark was entered in this name at Goldsmiths’ Hall as a small worker.
