A website family tree notes he was born in St Quentin, France in 1680 and baptised at La Haucort, Picardie, again France, in the same year.
John Corporon (Grimwade p.473) signed in 1709 to be his apprentice.
He paid Duty in 1725 for the apprentice indentures of Edward Newsham of St Giles in the Fields.
Anthony, Lewis and Marian, children of Lewis and Ann Mettayer, were christened in Westminster in 1720, 1722 and 1724 respectively.
His daughter Susanna and son Samuel, for whom no baptism records have been found, applied for freedom by patrimony in the Goldsmiths Company in 1738 and 1741-2 respectively.
His burial on 13th September 1740 was registered at St James, Paddington.
His Will, late goldsmith of St James, Westminster, was proved for probate on 30th September 1740 (National Archives reference PROB 11/705/128).
