MAILE, Robert (Grimwade p.284)

Postby MCB » Mon Sep 16, 2013 4:48 am

He was christened the son of Thomas and Sarah Maile of Saffron Hill at St Andrew, Holborn in 1733 and apprenticed to Benjamin Gurdon (Grimwade p.284, 356) of the Goldsmiths Company in 1747. He was free in 1755.
As a bachelor from St Ann’s parish he married Ann Bowers of St Stephen, Coleman Street at St Anne and St Agnes, Aldersgate in 1758.
John Williams (Grimwade p.705) became his apprentice in 1760.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Christopher’s Court, St Martin le Grand in 1759 and on unidentified property in St John Zachary precinct in 1761-62, presumably St Ann’s Lane from where he had entered a mark at Goldsmiths’ Hall in 1761 as a small worker.
He paid Duty in 1763 for the apprentice indentures of William Evans. Also in 1763, without showing the reason, his apprentice John Williams was turned over to Thomas Millington (Grimwade p.285) of the Goldsmiths Company.
No later information has been found for him.
