LITTLEWOOD, Samuel (Grimwade p.583-4)

In 1763 Samuel Littlewood a hardware man, son of John Littlewood of Sheffield and also a hardware man, applied for freedom by redemption in the Fishmongers Company.
The same name was entered at Goldsmiths’ Hall in 1772 for registration of a mark as a goldsmith at 9, Lombard Street and in a Duty paid list as a freeman of the Fishmongers Company for the apprentice indentures of Thomas Davies. He also married Sarah Stopford of St John’s parish, Croydon in that year.
He was listed in trade directories as a hardware man at 9, Lombard Street from 1772-5.
The same name was assessed to Land Tax on property in St Mary Woolnoth precinct, Lombard Street from 1770-76. The widow Littlewood was assessed there in 1777.
The burial of a Samuel Littlewood was registered at St Mary Woolnoth in February 1777. His Will, late of that parish, was proved for probate on 27th February 1777 (National Archives reference PROB 11/1028/321).
