3 September 1760 James son of James Macklin mariner of Salisbury apprenticed to Charles Terry Dyer of London.

26 June 1766 James Macklin discharged from any longer servitude to Charles Terry by order of the mayor and aldermen of the City of London. Charles Terry did not maintain a work place for his apprentice once he had moved. Therefore James Macklin was turned over the same day to Thomas Layton farrier of London. Charles Terry's trade was watch case maker as was Thomas Layton's.
