He is listed on page 114 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World as apprenticed in 1726 and free in the Clockmakers Company from 1733-37.
He married Elizabeth Shaw at St Giles, Cripplegate in 1736.
Robert in 1737 and Elizabeth in 1739, children of James and Elizabeth Fray of Old Bailey, were christened at St Sepulchre.
He entered a mark in around 1738 at Goldsmiths’ Hall from Little Old Bailey, probably as a case maker.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in St Sepulchre parish from 1736-41. This church is in Newgate and near to Old Bailey.
He was dead by 1755 when John Fray, the son of James Fray deceased watch case maker of St Sepulchre, signed indentures to be the apprentice of Lewis Charles Dunkerley of the Goldsmiths Company.
