DALLAWAY, Joseph James (Grimwade p.283)

He was the son of William Dallaway deceased, late of Gloucestershire, apprenticed in 1789 to Edward Troughton of the Grocers Company and free in 1804-5.
He married Elizabeth Atkins at St George, Botolph Lane, London in 1797; they were both from that parish.
He entered a mark in 1799 at Goldsmiths’ Hall as a small worker from 4 George Lane, Botolph Lane.
His son James was christened at St George’s in 1800. His wife Elizabeth was buried at the same church in the same year.
He married Elizabeth Sophia Mill from Farringdon, Berkshire at St George’s in 1801.
He notified a change of address to 147 Tottenham Court Road in 1802.
Two of their sons were christened at St Pancras Old Church in 1804 and 1807 respectively.
In 1807 he reported another change of address to Rowcrofts Building, Stroud, Gloucs.
He was still in Stroud for the 1811 elections.
He had moved to Bath by 1841 and was listed there as a gentleman (no employment).
His death was registered in Bath in 1859.

Dallaway (leaving London), Mathematical, Optical, and Philosophical Instrument maker, No. 192, Tottenham Court Road (opposite the Chapel), consisting of the following articles, which are of the best quality :—Spectacles, Eye Glasses, Opera and Perspective Glasses, Telescopes, Microscopes, Mirrors, Prisms and Magic Lanthorns, Globes, Drawing Instruments, Pocket Compasses, Rules, Barometers and Thermometers, Military and Land Surveying Instruments, Electrical Machines and Apparatus, a small Battery, a large Galvanic Trough etc. etc. Also a very large Cylinder Electrical Machine, with the Medical Apparatus, well calculated for an Electrician Lecturer, or an Hospital, being, larger than any now made in London.

1851 England Census Joseph J Dallaway aged 77 years Fund Holder listed at Widcombe Crescent in Lyncombe and Widcombe Somerset Bath.
