WOODWARD, Charles (Grimwade p.710)

Contrary to Grimwade’s assertion that the apprentice indentures of 1727 are signed “Woodward” they are actually signed “Woodard” following the spelling mentioned twice in the preamble of the document. However the christening record at St Olave, Bermondsey in 1711 of Charles, the son of Robert the butcher and his wife Hannah, shows “Woodward”.
