He signed a bond in 1745 as a bachelor from St George parish, Hanover Square to marry a spinster Ann Johnson of St James parish, Westminster.
Sons Thomas in 1753, William in 1755, Joseph in 1758, George in 1760 (died 1764) and Charles in 1769 (died 1769) were all christened in Westminster. The website being used for research does not specify at which church. The burials of the two youngest sons and their mother were recorded at Whitefield, Camden. Whitefield’s Tabernacle was a non-conformist chapel in Tottenham Court Road built in 1756 and may be relevant to the later christenings.
In addition to those signed by his sons Thomas in 1767, William in 1769 and Joseph in 1772 indentures to be his apprentices were also signed by Thomas Slater of Southwark in 1754, Alexander Field (Grimwade p.508) and James Prichard of Herefordshire in 1763, Anthony Nott in 1771 and William Eustace in 1774.
His wife Ann died aged 57 years in 1780 and was buried at Whitefields, Camden. The burial record refers to a family vault.
The record of his marriage to wife Mary (see below) has not been traced.
His Will, which was granted probate at the Consistory Court of London in 1795, refers to his property in Air Street and shows bequests to his wife Mary, sons William (Grimwade p.626) and Joseph but names only the children of his son Thomas (Grimwade p.626) by his deceased wife Harriett as beneficiaries of a third share of the residue of his estate.
