He was probably John Madden, the son of Matthew (Grimwade p.588) and his wife Hannah, christened at All Hallows, Lombard Street in 1678.
As John Madden he signed indentures in 1693 to be his father’s apprentice and was made free of the Haberdashers' Company in 1700.
He married Hannah Bound at St James, Dukes Place in February 1705.
Their son John was christened at All Hallows in December 1705.
He was listed as a Haberdasher in Cheapside in the 1727 London Poll Book and assessed to Land Tax on property in Goldsmiths Row until 1729. A new tenant was assessed on the property from 1730.
It would appear that the reference in Grimwade’s biography for Matthew to the death in 1730 of a goldsmith named Madden may relate to John Madden.
