JUDKINS, Matthew (Grimwade p.566)

Post by MCB »

He married Mercy Jackson at All Hallows, London Wall in 1708. On the bond for the marriage he said he was 30 years old and a widower.
A Matthew Judkins married Mary Harvey at the same church in 1721.
William Yearley signed to be his apprentice in 1723 and John Sims in 1734. Judkins was shown on the indentures as a freeman of the Fishmongers Company.
A Poll Book of 1734 entitled “Knights of the Shire” listed him voting from Gutter Lane in respect of Rolveden which is near Ashford, Kent.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Gutter Lane from 1703-1743.
The assessment for 1744 was made on William Yarley who may have been his apprentice from 1723 (see above).

On a separate copy of the like allegation form that is partially written in Latin, Matthew Judkins' trade is identified as a goldsmith (auri fabrum).
