CHEBSEY, William (Grimwade p.464)

Postby MCB » Fri Feb 01, 2013 6:11 am

Six children of William and Elizabeth Chebsey were christened between 1677 and 1688 at St Bride’s, Fleet Street. None was named William whom Grimwade records as a son apprenticed to his father in 1708. His christening record would have been dated around 1694 and has probably been lost or destroyed. Similarly that of Timothy Chebsey born around 1699 said to have been apprenticed to his father William in 1713.
Indentures to be his apprentice were signed by his son George (Grimwade p.464, 741) in 1681, John Munday of London in 1693 and Edward Greenstreet of London in 1697.
The burial of a William Chebsey was recorded at St John, Hackney in 1720 without detail of age or last address to determine if this related to the person who registered the mark at Goldsmiths Hall around 1700.
