COUTA, Gabriel (Grimwade p.475)

Postby MCB » Thu Jan 17, 2013 5:28 am

He was christened at St Anne, Soho in 1792, the son of Benedict (Grimwade p.289) and Gertroud Couta.
He appears in the 1845 Post Office Directory as a brass filigree worker at 12 Blenheim Street, the same address as in 1814 when he entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall as a small worker.
His address remained as before in the 1858 and 1864 London Poll Books.
His death in 1868 aged 76 years was registered in Dartford.

9 November 1826 Gabriel Couta of Saint James Place Saint James Street married to Ann only daughter of the late Joseph Curtis Esquire of Charles Street Hatton Garden. Reported in the 19 November 1826 Examiner.

17 August 1826 Gabriel John son of Gabriel Couta Merchant and Ann of Saint James Place born.

1841 UK Census Gabriel Coneta Goldsmith listed alone on Brook Street, aged forty-five years and born in the Middlesex County. It appears that his son may have been at away at school at this time and his wife had passed away. Because the age and last name are only close and the address may be out of place, this is just a possibility.

1851 UK Census Gabriel Couta Silversmith listed at 12 Blenheim Street with his mother Gertrude, his son Gabriel John and his sister Margaret.

1861 UK Census Gabriel Couta Silver Filagree Worker listed at 12 Blenheim with his sister Margaret.
