He was christened in 1788 at St Anne, Soho, the son of John Blake (Grimwade p.442, 737-8) and married Matilda Moulton Matthew in 1811 at St John the Baptist, Croydon.
Their five children were christened at St Martin in the Fields from 1813 to 1819. Their address was recorded as 16 Long Lane and their father as a silversmith.
In addition to James Brydie mentioned by Grimwade apprentices indentures were also signed in 1815 by Clement Cheese (Grimwade p.464, 741) and in 1822 by Joseph Josiah Burtt (Grimwade p.455, 739).
He was out of business by 1841 when the UK Census recorded him as a clerk living in Edward Street, Regents Park.
