BELLINGHAM, Samuel (Grimwade p.437)

Postby MCB » Fri Dec 21, 2012 5:34 am

He was born around 1755.
A bond in 1776 shows Samuel Bellingham, a goldsmith from St Martin in the Fields parish aged 22 years, intending to marry Mary Jones aged 28 years.
Land Tax redemption was assessed jointly on Samuel Bellingham and Samuel Goodman for unidentified property in St Martin’s parish, presumably in Bell Square, from where they had registered a mark in partnership in 1793.
Samuel Bellingham entered a mark alone from 8 Bell Square in 1806 and continued to be assessed to Land Tax on this property until at least 1821 when surrounding properties were being recorded as pulled down. The Land Tax records for the property from 1822-26 have not been found but the record for 1827 shows 8 Bell Square also pulled down. The demolitions were probably connected with the construction of Trafalgar Square.
The burial recorded at St Anne and St Agnes, Aldersgate in 1830 of a Samuel Bellingham aged 75 years, late of Hoxton, is probably relevant.
