RENON, Timothy (Grimwade p.322)

Post by MCB »

Renon is a repeated copying error for Renou. Records also show the name as Renew and Renous.
A Timothy Renou married Ann Woods at St Lawrence Putney, London in 1737.
Also in 1737 a maker’s mark was entered at Goldsmiths Hall by Timothy Renon (sic) as a case maker at Linnin Draper, Freeman of the Farrer Company.
Christening records at St Giles Cripplegate from 1738-55 for seven children of a Timothy and Ann Renou, all show their father as a watch case maker but none show his address.
The indentures in 1753 for son James (born 1738) to be the apprentice of John Twyford, of the Vintner Company show his father as of the Farriers Company and those in 1770 for son William (born 1755) to be the apprentice of Elizabeth Andrews of the Clothworkers Company show his father as a watch case maker, late of Shoe Lane.
There is a burial record at St Giles, Cripplegate in 1757 for a man named Timothy Renew.

There are only three RENON whose wills were proven at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in the eighteen (or any other) century. Of these one was a mariner and the other two were both Silversmiths of the parish of St Giles in the Fields.
The Silversmiths are almost certainly related to Timothy Renon.

21 May 1737 - Will of Abraham Renon, Silversmith of Saint Giles in the Fields , Middlesex.[ TNA/PROB 11/683/192
28 July 1729 - Will of Phillipp Renon, Silver Smith of Saint Giles in the Fields, Middlesex.[TNA/PROB 11/631/243]

To confuse the Renon/Renou matter even further the sailor Renon was also know as Renno !
