He signed indentures in 1747 as the son of Francis Layton, watch spring maker late of St Sepulchre parish, to be the apprentice of Peter Crammillion, Citizen and Farrier (Grimwade p.477).
He married Jenny White at St Andrew, Holborn in 1755; she was from St Sepulchre parish.
Christening records at St Andrew, Holborn for three of their children 1759-71 show their address as Dean Street, Fetter Lane.
Indentures were signed by John Greenwell of Southwark in 1756, by James, son of James Richard (Grimwade p.307?), watchmaker of Christ Church, Spitalfields parish in 1763 and by William Mean (Grimwade p.329) of Southwark in 1771 to be the apprentices of Thomas Layton, Citizen, Farrier and watch case maker of Dean Street, Fetter Lane.
He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1762 and 1763 as a case maker from that address.
The burial of Jenny Layton recorded at St Andrew in 1799 notes her last address was sill at Dean Street.
