William Sumner (Grimwade p.674) signed indentures in 1763 to be his apprentice.
The Parliamentary Report of 1773 into the manner in which the English Assay Offices conducted business shows between 23rd May 1771 and 29th May 1772 48lbs of his plate failed to meet the standard. The same report records the partnership of William (Grimwade p.463, 741) and Thomas Chawner failed to meet the standard for 11lbs of their plate.

He was christened in Church Broughton, Derbyshire in 1735, the son of John and Ann.
The William Chawner with whom he was in partnership in 1759 was his brother (Grimwade p.463, 741).
He married Sarah Emery in Doveridge, Derbyshire in 1763.
A family tree recorded on websites indicates there is a memorial inscription to him at Doveridge which shows he died in 1806.
