He was christened John Haywood Crossland in 1787 at Fitzroy Chapel, St Pancras, the son of John Haywood and Mary.
In partnership with his brother Nathaniel he entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1816 as case makers from 4 Pear Tree Street, Goswell Street.
He married Mary Mower Johnson at St Bride, Fleet Street in 1817; both were from that parish.
He entered another mark alone in 1817 as a case maker from 33 Ironmonger Street, St Luke’s parish the address which was shown on the christening record at St Luke, Finsbury in 1819 for his son (also) John Haywood.
He was recorded on the 1841 UK Census, still a watch case maker, now at Galway Street, Old Street.
By 1851 he had become a journeyman watch case maker at the same address.
He was living with his sister in West Ham and had retired by 1861.
His death was recorded in the West Ham register in 1864.
Probate for his Will was delayed until 1868 and was proved in the Principal Registry. A year later a final valuation of under £1000 was put on his estate. His son John Haywood Crossland, an assayer, was appointed his executor.
