He was christened the son of Thomas (Grimwade p.322, 413) and Ann Phelps at St John, Horselydown, Bermondsey in 1791.
He married Mary Ravenscroft at St Vedast, Foster Lane in 1812; both were from that parish.
The christening record for their son James at St Botolph, Aldersgate in 1813 shows their address as Aldersgate Buildings and Thomas as an optician.
He entered a maker's mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1818 as a spectacle case maker from 28 Holywell Lane, Curtain Road and in 1832 notified a change of address to 5 City Terrace, Old Street Road.
His burial in 1839 aged 48 years, late of City Terrace, was recorded at St John, Hoxton.
