He was christened at St James, Clerkenwell in 1805, the son of William and Ann.
He entered maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1826 as a watch case maker from 13 Tysoe Street, Clerkenwell, in 1828 from 2 Meredith Street as a case maker and from the same address in 1829 as a watch case maker. He notified a change of address to 4 Skinner Street in 1833 and 1834.
He married Harriet Brookes at St Mary, Islington in 1830; both were from that parish.
Christening records for three of their children at St James, Clerkenwell in 1832-36 show the Skinner Street address and confirm their father’s occupation as previously.
1841 and 1851 UK Census records show the family still at 4 Skinner Street. In 1851 son George John (born 1832) was also engaged in the family business.
The burial recorded at St James, St Pancras in 1855 of a George Hammon aged 50 years, late of Ashby Street, Clerkenwell seems relevant.
Son George John created a watch case manufacturing business in Coventry.
