Noted as an Optician, located at 3, Silver Street, Clerkenwell, London, in 1826.

The business was succeeded by M. Whitehouse, at the same address.

Perhaps the M Whitehouse recorded as successor to the business was the widow Mary?

Very likely. The name M. Whitehouse seems to disappear during the year 1830.

10 October 1840 David Whitehouse of Silver Street in the Parish of Saint Johns Clerkenwell in the County of Middlesex Optician will proved at London. The will was signed in 1825 and not proved until after Mary his wife had died. Family history records have Mary dying on 23 September 1840. The will called for Mary to receive three quarters of the profit of his business for carrying it on, and their son Joseph to receive a journeyman's salary and one quarter of the profit for superintending the running of the business. After Mary's decease Joseph was to inherit all of the business. Reference: TNA PROB 11/1935/284

I believe the ad is for the business of Nathaniel David Whitehouse who was David Whitehouse's grandson by his first son Nathaniel who established the business.
