LIDDIARD, Thomas (Grimwade p.582)

Post by buckler »

Born c1736.

Son Thomas' christening record in 1773 is in St Faith under St Pauls register.

1781 Sun 1 293 20\06\78 jt Policy Number 443829
Insured Thomas Liddiard, Toyman and Silversmith , 54, St Pauls Churchyard. Insured Value £2000

Was one of the deputation of six who presented the petition of the London bucklemakers to the King in 1792.

The Times of 4th November 1794 carried an advertisement for the auction sale of both his stock, over 4 days, and the lease of his premises.
He is described as Diamond Merchant and Goldsmith, retiring from trade, who has occupied the premises of 54, St Pauls Churchyard for nearly 30 years. [ this is slightly inconsistent with his first mark of 3rd March 1770 being in GutterLane ]

From the stock, this was a very upmarket establishment
"consisting of diamond watches, a great quantity of Diamonds of the finest water, set in Necklaces , Rings, Lockets in all the fashion elegance of the present day ,many thousand ounces of modern and secondhand Plate, Gold watches, gold enamell English and foreign Watches, pearl Hat- pins , and Necklaces, Lockets and Bracelets etc, silver Buckles , gold Snuff Boxes and other, Toothpick Cases in gold silver and pearl, plated Goods, Cutlery etc" .

Died 1813.
London Deaths & Burials Index for St Faith under St Pauls register dated 21st May 1813. Aged 77 years; last address 7 London Terrace
