BARKER, Robert (Grimwade p.430)

Postby MCB » Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:01 pm

Indentures were signed in 1771 for Robert son of James Barker deceased, late silversmith of Carey Street to be the apprentice of Margaret Binley, goldsmith of Gutter Lane (Grimwade p.441 and 737) and widow of Richard Binley, goldsmith deceased (Grimwade p.441).
The burial of a Robert Barker aged 59 years whose last address was “Infirmary” is recorded at St James, Piccadilly in 1816 and may be relevant on the grounds that his year of birth would have been 1757 and the 1771 apprenticeship, if typical, would have commenced at age 14 years.

The date 9th July 1778 which is presumably the when he was made free is on the reverse side of Robert Barker's indenture contract.
