In an undated document applying for his freedom of the City of London in the Company of Goldsmiths he declared he was the son of Henry Hobdell, goldsmith (Grimwade p.547-8).
A document in 1816 by Anthony Cox (Grimwade p.355) applying for his freedom of the City of London in the Company of Goldsmiths declares he had been an apprentice of Richard Hobdell for 7 years from 1798.
Indentures were signed in 1799 for Richard son of Richard Hobdell, goldsmith of Addle Street to be his father’s apprentice. In the same year Indentures were similarly signed for George (Sharman?) son of John, silversmith of White Cross Street.
Lists of Duties paid by Richard Hobdell for other Apprentice Indentures include Nathaniel Troughton in 1800 and Robert Russell in 1803.

Richard's christening record lists his parents as Henry and Katherine. The placement of their names in the records doesn't look correct at first glance, but when the layout of the entire page is taken into account it makes sense to me.
