He was the son of John (Grimwade p.684) and Alice (Grimwade p.288) Tringham.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Kings Head Court, St Martin le Grand parish for one year only in 1789.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Noble Street from 1790-3 and entered a mark in 1791 as a goldworker from there.
In 1790 as a bachelor from St Olave, Silver Street parish he had married Jane Lycett at St George, Bloomsbury.
Land Tax assessments were made on him in George Street, St Martin le Grand parish from 1795-6.
Children of James and Jane were christened at St John Zachary in 1797 and 1799.
He was assessed to Land Tax on unidentified property near to the London Assay Office from 1797 to 1806.
