Grimwade's biography for Strachan indicates his first mark was registered in 1799 suggesting a date of birth before 1778, refers to him as having died between 1842 and 1850 and having been "The Paul Storr" of gold boxes, suggesting some potential for wealth. The Pimlico household had two servants resident and Strachan was of independent means. Unfortunately no official registration can be found of the death which is referred to in the Probate document to confirm it positively relates to the silversmith.
The London Deaths & Burials Index for the St James', St Pancras registration of the October 1853 burial of an Alexander James Strachan, the death referred to in the previous post, shows no age and a last address as the St Margaret Workhouse, Westminster. The record's relevance here seems doubtful.
For information the England & Wales Death Index also records an Alexander James Strachen (with an "e") for the Brighton register in 1850 but the address and the spelling of the surname again its relevance to the silversmith seems doubtful.
