25 March 1801 Daniel son of Thomas Hockley of Seven Dials Oilman apprenticed to John Samuel Reily fishmonger of London/goldsmith by trade/Carey Lane.

7 April 1808 Daniel Hockley made free by service to John Samuel Reily in the Fishmongers Company.

Daniel has signed his surname on the indenture contract without an "e." Elsewhere the "e" is included in his surname.

Recorded as HOCKLY and BOSWORTH, Working Silversmiths of 9, Brook Street, Holborn.

Daniel Hockly emigrated to the Cape in 1819, arriving in Algoa Bay (Port Elizabeth) in 1820 on board the SS Chapman, along with his wife Elizabeth and three children, their forth child Fanny Chapman was born during the voyage. The Hockly family were located at various times in Grahamstown, Uitenhage, Cradock and Graaff-Reinet.

Hockly died in 1835 at Graaff-Reinet and is buried in the old Dutch Reformed cemetery.

It would appear that the partnership of Daniel Hockley and Thomas Bosworth was not a long one.
I have a buckle with what appears to be Hockley's January 1810 sole mark with a date letter for 1816/17, the mark presumably being re-used after Boswell's departure.

Daniel Hockley then appears have entered into a partnership with William Snooke Hall, a fact not recorded by Grimwade .

18 April 1818
London Gazette records that both were given their good conduct certificates

William Snooke Hall entered a mark at Asby Square, Northampton Square

24 October 1818
Dividend meeting declared in London Gazette

Daniel Hockley subsequently emigrated to South Africa and continued as a silversmith . See Salter "Wine Labels 1730 -2003"
