Whether it was Batchelor who was going abroad, or he acted as a horse dealer is unknown !

His only mark was entered at Goldsmiths Hall in 1770 as a smallworker from Turnstile Row, Lincoln’s Inn.
The Parliamentary Report of 1773 into the manner in which the English Assay Offices conducted business shows between 23rd May 1771 and 29th May 1772 18lbs of his plate failed to meet the standard.
That significant problem, and the possible emigration following the sale of a horse, may explain why he appears to be last recorded as a bucklemaker in the 1773 report.
