John Faux was declared bankrupt in late 1785 and his premises sold in 1786 for the benefit of his creditors.
Surprisingly although his buckles in the pre-duty period are comparatively common, I'd never seen one with a duty mark .
That is until this morning, when one arrived with an incuse George duty mark. Probably early 1785 as the assay and makers mark were on the back of the frame in the pre-duty style, the marking on the bridges having almost totally superceded that placement after the duty was introduced.
If anyone else has seen one of John's mark on a post duty piece , tongs for example , I'd appreciate details .
