The following maker's mark appears on the silver blade of a French pocket fruit knife. The other side of the blade has an array of 4 tiny hallmarks including 2 Paris countermarks for 1762-1768 and 1768-1774! Also a vine leaf for Peronne (near Amiens) and the swan mark.
The maker's mark appears to be CG with a flaming torch (flambeau) in between. I need to find out who this maker was, when he worked and where. The shape of the mark is of the pre-lozenge period.
So far no maker has ever been recorded on a silver blade this early since a silver knife blade would not have been considered important enough even to warrant hallmarking at this time.
