French silver beaker

Post by wjsa »

Hi team,

I'm doing a bit of research on this French silver beaker, but I am unable to accurately pinpoint the maker, or even the period of manufacture.

Does anyone recognise this maker stamp?

Thank you

Hello
You certainly don’t make this easy as your photos are so poorly focused.
That said, I recollect that we’ve seen this mark O.B. twice on these forums previously, on a spoon and on a cruet stand, unfortunately without attribution. The photos have disappeared from the forum.

All we can say is that your beaker probably was made in Strasbourg in the first quarter of the 19thC. It has a milled band applied to the rim for decoration, and a personalization in Gothic lettering.

Good luck in your continuing research on this object.

Regards.
