Unrecognized French silver maker 1819-38

Post by Georg »

I have French tea spoons (vermeil) from 1819-38 period ("Greek mask " and “Raphael” 800/1000 marks). However, I can not assign the maker to the mark (see below). It is a letter F over crossed wands or maybe stylized letter X, there are two dots at the sides and something below, maybe a pin. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello

Your vermeil spoons were made in Paris by François-Pamphile Josan (Jozan) maker of small tableware at 19 rue Simon-le-Franc. His mark was FJ, symbol two crossed boatman’s oars with a pellet on each side (deux rames de batelier en sautoir, un point de chaque côté). Josan first registered on 12 August 1824, erased 7 January 1836. He continued at another address with the alternate spelling of his name and a different mark until 12 March 1847.

See Arminjon, v.I, no. 01147, p. 141 and no. 02037, p. 215, and https://www.925-1000.com/Ffrench_makers_J.html

Going forward, as a courtesy to those who research your objects, kindly show all marks so that we can all learn.

Regards

Thank you very much for both answers.
As to the lack of the other marks: I am new here and I thought that one should enclose exactly 2 images
(entire objects + mark in question). Since the maker mark and the other punches are in different places I was unable to show them all. Now I know better.
Thank you again.
