Assistance with French maker of card case

Post by dartsil »

Hello all,

Trying to assist a friend with the maker on this French piece, can anyone help?

Would appear to be AL, possibly a serpent between the lettering?

Thanks in advance.
Colin.

Hi Colin,

Are there no other marks on the item?

Hello
This object is a vesta case, as seen by the strike plate on the bottom, with guilloché engraving and a personalization of a stacked monogram (JLG?). It should be marked on both the lid and the body of the case.
The maker is Alphonse Lassange, maker of smokers’ items (la tabatière), working in Paris at 11 rue d’Anjou. His mark was initials AL, symbol a ribbon-shaped piece of pasta (une lazagne), a mnemonic for his name. He registered his mark on 15 July 1856, erased 23 July 1878.
See Arminjon, v. II, no. 00390, p. 58.
Hope this helps.
Regards

My pleasure to help.
Unfortunately a typo crept in. The maker’s name is Alphonse Lassagne. Sorry for the error.

Yes the boar’s head mark, used on smalls, indicating silver of at least 800 standard. All marks as they should be.

Maybe I was feeling hungry!
