Maker of this French spicebox with nutmeggrater?

Postby zilverik » Wed Sep 21, 2011 12:13 pm

Hi,

I posted this before as one of my first posts and there was no respons. Now I know how to post a picture and I had a better look at the box. So, I take the liberty to post my question again with better information and photo's.
I see the A with two palms = assaymaster Louis Robin 1-10-1738 till 1-10 1744. (So, not Jean Jacgues Prevost, as I was thinking before. That was a wrong obsevation)
I see another crowned A : Yearletter for 1740 Paris
And then there is the maker who I can't figure out. Left: V; Right: C; Under: P Above: Crowned fleur the lys. The marks are blury, because they are very worn. It is very difficult to see, even with a 10x loop. Any comment is welcome.

Regards,

Zilverik

Hi,

It's absurd that the maker of a top-piece like this isn't known. Maybe the "V" could stand for "veuve", widow? In that case the maker could be the widow of maker CP or GP or PC or PG. Regretably, I couldn't find this makersmark as well. Maybe someone else can?

Regards,

Zilverik
