This French creamer has suspicious marks and I want to share that on the forum. The mark of Nicolas Gontier (or Gonthier) on the handle doesn't look suspicious to me. Gontier worked between 1768 till 1792 and the creamer looks from that period in Paris. The other(control)marks on the handle do look O.K. to me as well. We see the .800 mark Paris 1798. There is another controlmark (after 1838) near the lip, that looks O.K.The marks on the bottom I don't trust. These marks do not match the Gontier mark. Pseudo marks? I wondered if the handle was repaired or that this handle was replaced, but there are no signs of a repair or a replacement. It looks like an original handle. So, is it a marriage from two parts that do not belong together? Or is there another solution?
Regards,
Zilverik

The .800 mark for Paris 1798 looks O.K. and the .800 controlmark after 1838 as well

This controlmark .800 (after 1838) is situated near the lip. Looks O.K.

The bottommarks don't look O.K. to me:

The way the handle is put on the creamer looks original. No repairs.

Inside the creamer, no sign of a repair:
