Identify maker's mark

Postby joho » Sun Aug 14, 2011 12:31 pm

Hi - can any one help identify the makers mark on this heavy basting spoon. There is only the makers mark struck 3 times. It is a fleur de lis below a crown, above initials I C or I G ? No other marks. The style of the spoon is typical mid 18th century French, but I guess it could also be Swiss or Belgium? It has an amorial crest engraved to the terminal. It is 13 inches long and weighs 7 ounces. Many thanks John

Hi John,

I could not find the master in my books. I looked expecially in J. Helft, Le poincon des Provinces Francaises, 1985. It was not uncommon in the provence to put just three makersmarks on an object. That was for the "Maitre Abonnee", living far away from an assay office.
I hope that helps a little bit.

Regards,
