Daubree? Who knows more about him?

Hi,

This chamberstick is very heavy. Signd Daubree and AD. It feels new, not worn at all. Who knows more?

Originaire semble-t-il de Nancy, Alfred Daubree s'installe vers 1850 comme marchand de bronzes et de bijouterie au 85 de la rue Montmartre. Il coule un certain nombre de bronzes pour Fratin, Cumberworth, Menessier, Michel Pascal, Kampf. Il vend beaucoup par l'intermédiaire d'agents et ses bronzes portent rarement sa marque. A partir de 1860, il s'établit au 48 du boulevard de Strasbourg, puis au 12 en 1881. Lors de l'Exposition Universelle de Paris de 1867 il est présenté comme l'un des fondeurs les plus réputés de son époque. Son fils lui succède après sa mort en 1885.

Hi jgl,

Thank you very much! Your information fits perfectly. The chamber stick is cast (fonde) indeed and the quality is very good. That Daubree rarely uses his mark explains it.

I once owned a bronze cup by Daubree, as far as i know he made bronzes for the gentry, and whatever bronze was left he founded pieces for himself !.
