R. Helft Flatware, Made in France

Postby mrcherry14 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 2:13 pm

Good Day:

I was wondering if anyone could provide any information on some flatware that is marked: R. Helft and Made in France
(check out this link: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Silver-Flatw ... essage.htm) I have 21 pieces of this and it looks the same as the picture on the link.

It is really hard to make out the hallmark. If you need any further information, please let me know. Thanks. Justin

Hi Justin,

Welcome to the Forum.

If anyone is to help we will need images of the marks. If photographing them is proving impossible, try drawing what you can see and post an image of that.

Trev:

I have tried and tried to take pictures but can not get them to turn out.
I am not even positive that there are any hallmarks.
All pieces are marked: R. Helft and Made in France.
I did the magnet test and none of the pieces stuck to any of the flatware.

What if there are no hallmarks? What is my next step?
I can tell that they are very old. I am not even sure what the handles are made of? I thought bakelite at first, but that was not invented until around 1904 and I think these are much older than that.

I guess I was hoping to find any information possible on these. Sorry again, I do not want to waste anyones time.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Justin

Hello.

Being stamped "Made in France" dates them to the 20th century.
If the fleur-de-lys mark is in a square or rectangle, it is probably a silverplate mark.
Solid French silver marks would be in a lozenge.

Thanks, Pat.

I did find a fork that was marked Jassaud, France. Does that help at all?
