Cigarette Case Marked Argent

I have a card or small cigarette case marked "Argent" with a makers mark in a lozenge (ef with a symbol between the two initials). What countries used this mark? I know I have a condiment caddy marked "Argent Saigon". Was it a mark used in the French colonial empire?
