Pattern on italian plate

Post by kwinto »

This is a bottom of a plate from Italy.
Marked with "800" and "376AL" (PERUGGIA & C., Alessandria).
I am asking about the grinded pattern on the bottom of this plate - overlaping circles.
Is it original or was it made nowadays?
I have never seen something like this on a silver plate.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
You are right about the maker PERUGGIA & C.
It is solid silver .800, not silver plated.
Sometimes the bottom of silver items is polished like this with circular buffing tool.

Hi AG2012,
This mean that it was not made originally?

This type of finish, with circular buffing tool, is very usual in Italian silver. It is done by the manufacturer.

Thank you for the replies.
Now I have another question.
Why somebody have done that kind of circular shapes on a plate?
For me it looks more like a finish of a factory machine.
