Jewelry in gold

Post by PW333abc »

Hello!

I would be very grateful for answers regarding marking on jewelry in gold. Does it happen that jewelry is sometimes not stamped despite the fact that the jewelry contains gold?
In some countries, it is required to stamp if the jewelry weighs 1 gram or more.

Best regards

Your question is too general. Requirements vary throughout the world. Some countries require gold items to be hallmarked; other countries have no hallmarking system whatsoever. If you have a question about a specific item please post it with relevant pictures.

Hello,

I saw a clip on youtube a person going to flea markets. He buys items in gold and silver. He said some gold items are not always stamped. For example, older jewelry made in the United States.

Hi,
It is not simple to distinguish solid gold jewelry from gold plated and let alone gold filled.
Recognizing marks is helpful but no guarantee the item is made of gold because there are faked marks.
Fortunately, there are electronic testers now.In the past we relied on deep filing before testing, or heating the item then immersing into pickling solution. With gold filled even that was sometimes unreliable.
