This entry by Trev puts a maker of Sterling ferrules as previously working for Landers Frary & Clark running their ferrule department: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=36151&p=119878&hilit=sterling+ferrule#p119878
I'm looking at a set of knives and forks with Mother-of-Pearl handles, Sterling ferrules, and LF&C blades. It would seem LF&C might have been in the Sterling business, even if a rather limited extent. So should they not qualify as Silversmiths and not just platers?
