Melting down damaged coin silver spoons

Wonder if anyone has had damaged coin silver spoons melted down (American makers), and if so - what the approximate silver content of them turned out to be. I have a growing pile of bent, split and severely dented spoons from various makers and date ranges which may eventually see that fate. Any info appreciated.

Most I have melted assayed to 88-90% silver content. I understands it varies between 80-90% depending on materials available at the time and location.

Hi,

Why would you want to melt down and destroy these antique items? There are always collectors, especially those interested in marks, who would like to acquire such pieces. You wouldn't take a vintage car to the scrapyard, so why send these spoons to the same fate?

the items that might see an early grave are damaged beyond what anyone could want them for other than melting them down for silver value or reused for new projects. primarily later machine made coin silver and not early hand made silver. can't keep everything and i'd rather move onto other items in better condition.
