huszas76, AG2012 et al -

do you know the progression of marks - serif>sans serif, name>initials etc for klinkosch up to 1922? for example, in the 1870s his touchmark uses periods, a bit later it's streamlined to JCK. another curiosity: when would the small articles stamp have displaced the diana head?

From 1867 to 1922 Diana and the "dog head"-hallmark were used side by side, the "dog head" for smaller items. There is no definition what "small" is. You will find quite large sugar tongs with the "dog head" and quite small sewing accessories with the Diana. I assume it could depend on the the spot where the hallmark was placed - if it was too narrow for the Diana, the slimmer "dog head" was used.
