No marks or stamps

Postby TiffyisMyName » Sun Feb 04, 2018 4:32 pm

Hello! Sorry to bother you all.

I got a scratched up little teapot at the thrift store and can't find a mark or stamp on it anywhere. I think it's silver, since it's not magnetic and rings like a bell when struck.

It may be plated, there's some pitting and discoloration on the side (visible in the photo).

I need all the help I can get to ID it, or finding the mark if it's hidden.

I'll be looking through the care subforum to find how to get those scratches out, but I need to know more about it, first.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Have it tested with one of new electronic non invasive testers (most jewelers have them).
Sound and magnet are not reliable at all (base metals like copper are not magnetic either).
Lack of marks means we`ll never know who made it.
Scratches can be removed on buffing wheel or silver polisher on very soft cloth but there is a risk of removing silver coating if it`s silver-plated (most probably it is).
Regards

Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will recognize it.

I've managed to ID it myself! This is Silver Tassle Teapot by Pottery Barn.

Great ! Just take care to avoid abrasives when cleaning it.
It`s silver-plated.
